We became a B Corp in 2023 to make our business about more than a black bottom line and to use our business as a force for good. There’s a lot of cowboys in our industry, being a B Corp holds us accountable to the highest standards of performance and hopefully in time inspires other plumbers to do the same. We’re not doing everything right, but we believe we’re on the right track. The journey to B Corp certification provided us with an opportunity to inspect every aspect of our business through the lens of B Lab’s rigorous certifying process and held us accountable to the highest standards of social and environmental performance.We certified in May 2023 with a score of 91.7, 11.7 points above the minimum certification score of 80. We couldn’t be more proud of this achievement.
Becoming a certified B Corp is a significant milestone for us, and we believe it’s just the beginning. We see this certification as a stepping stone towards shaping a better business. We’re up for the challenge of maintaining the high standards that come with being part of the rapidly growing, global B Corp community.Our goal now is to re-certify in three years with a score of 100! We know it won’t be easy, but for us, it’s about the progress, not perfection. We’re thrilled to embrace this opportunity and to continue our journey towards making a positive impact.
Some of our initiatives include: Committing 1% of our annual revenue to verified environmental partners via 1% for the Planet, Measuring our carbon footprint, implementing steps to reduce it and offsetting our emissions to certify as carbon neutral with Trace, Swapping to 100% carbon neutral energy supply at our HQ, changing majority of our banking to fellow B Corp certified bank, Beyond Bank.
1% for the Planet represents a global network of organisations or environmental partners, committed to making a positive impact on the environment.
As 1% for the Planet members, we’ve committed to donate 1% of our revenue to these environmental partners who are tackling the impact of climate change head on!
Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet members have given over $450 million to environmental partners. Today, their global network consists of thousands of businesses and environmental partners working toward a better future
We partnered with Trace to measure our carbon footprint and offset 100% our emissions via certified carbon credits and tree planting. Trace is an Australian-born, female-founded climate-technology company on a mission to reduce the barriers for individuals and businesses to go carbon neutral.
Here is the breakdown of our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions for the period measures: 12t, 0.2t and 26.2t respectively. We’ll continue to look for ways to reduce our emissions, we’ve started with simple (but not so common) things like tracking and measuring our waste, learning more about where it goes and how much of it is recycled/repurposed – (approximately 30% by the way!).
