How To Choose A New Mixer Tap

Changing the mixer taps in your home is a simple and effective way to instantly uplift the space. Though they may seem like a one type fits all fixture but with hundreds of shapes, styles, sizes and features available – there’s a number of things important to consider when making your decision.

Here’s the top 3!

1. Warranty

An old boss of mine used to think he’d hit the jackpot when he found a basin mixer that cost under $20. I must have installed 50 of them before we started getting phone calls to come and fix them all up! Any good basin mixer should come with a warranty of at least 5 years but some will go up to 15 years. Rather than pay the plumber twice, spend a little bit extra on something that will stand the test of time.

2. Handle Placement

It’s easy to choose a basin mixer based on aesthetic appeal only. Unfortunately it’s often not that simple. Consider any space or height restrictions that may limit the function of your mixer  – make sure you have enough room to turn the handle side to side and all the way up.

3. Spout location

Do you need a high spout or low spout. Do you need a long spout or a short spout? The last thing you want is for your new mixer to end up like this one!

4. Swivel

Do you want the spout to stay stationary in one position or do you want it to move from side to side? This is an important one to consider as swivelling a fixed spout can lead to loose, leaking fixtures.

5. WELS rating

WELS ratings (water efficiency labelling scheme) are shown in stars. The more coloured stars, the more water efficient the product is. To keep your water bills on budget and your eco conscience clear, look for options with high star ratings!

Happy shopping!
